A Mischief of Magpies | Studio is a London-based book design and publishing studio working with publishers, licensors, brands, private clients and independent authors.
Founded by Creative Director Clare Baggaley in 2019, the studio brings together an established network of designers, editors, illustrators and production specialists to deliver books from concept through to print. We specialise in shaping ideas into commercially and creatively successful publications, combining strong visual direction with precision and craft.
Clare has over 25 years' experience in publishing as a Creative Director, working with leading companies including HarperCollins, Bloomsbury, Penguin Random House, Dorling Kindersley, Carlton, Welbeck, Pan Macmillan, Wonderbly, The British Library, What On Earth Books and Quarto. She has also worked on projects for brands including The London Eye, Liberty of London, Game of Thrones, Pixar, Disney, HBO, The Olympics, FIFA, Good Housekeeping, Queen and Harry Potter, and her work spans art direction, design and concept development, with particular expertise in series creation and bespoke publishing programmes.
We work across a broad range of genres and formats, including children’s publishing, adult fiction and non-fiction, educational titles and bespoke illustrated and paper engineering projects. Every project is delivered with clarity, craft and commercial intent.

A Mischief of Magpies | Publishing is an independent imprint making titles for children and adults, alongside a range of diaries and notebooks.
Our list includes the Up Yours! and adult activity series — including Up Yours Menopause! and Up Yours Old Age! — known for its irreverent tone, strong voice and distinctive approach to wellbeing and life-stage publishing.
